It happens to be bright and sunny to-day, so my thoughts have turned to the garden. Well perhaps a little larger view…. the Landscaping of our entire site.

And that subject can’t be thought about without our most precious asset taking the centre stage…Our trees. For the past few years, The Board has been actively involved in maintaining our tree inventory. We’ve trimmed many, removed unhealthy ones and planted close to 20 trees of better size, shape and suitability to our common spaces. This is a slow process as tree management is very expensive, but we’re going in the right direction to maintain our appearance, support the safety of our buildings and even do our part for climate change.

Did you see the article about the City of Burlington’s Private Property Tree Management initiative? The proposal (to be voted on shortly) is to ensure that Burlington’s present tree canopy is maintained. The city will insist that any tree on private property requires a permit before taking it down and is assured a replacement tree will be planted for the one removed. It really isn’t any different than how we’ve been managing our trees for the past few years.

So the sunshine is wonderful, yet we are a few weeks from Spring. Our trees tell that story. I think I can see some slight colour change in the tree in my back yard. Or is that wishful-thinking??
